The term "chiropractic" is typically associated with treatment of the spine. Sports chiropractic differs from chiropractic in general in that there is a greater focus on the biomechanics of the whole body, especially while performing specific sports. Sports chiropractors study sports technique in great detail, and familiarize themselves with the likely injuries involved in each sport.
Performance enhancement is another important element of sports chiropractic. Although most people associate chiropractic with spinal injury, serious athletes are more likely to consider a chiropractor's ability to enhance their performance. A chiropractor's detailed knowledge of anatomy, coupled with their unmatched ability to feel anatomic structures with their hands, make them the ideal addition to an athletes treatment team. When working with a professional sports team, for example, the chiropractor's role on the treatment team is typically that of performance enhancement, and less commonly associated with rehabilitation. Chiropractors typically employ hands-on therapies such as adjustments, Active Release Techniques® and Graston Technique® to treat injuries, strengthen tissues and enhance performance. Dr. Barone employs a hands-on approach to treat injuries and improve performance, with secondary home treatment consisting of stretching, ice or exercise prescription. Why Treat Athletes? Dr. Barone has had the honour of treating athletes of all levels, but his favourite athlete to treat is the one he helps you become. Stretch Prescription Stretch prescription is essential to performing stretches correctly, as doing the wrong stretches (or doing them incorrectly) may cause problems to worsen. Pre-Event Treatment Chiropractic treatments before an event will maximize your performance and prevent injury. Each muscle and joint in your body can be treated simply, safely and effectively to provide better motion and greater tissue strength. Preventive Maintenance Regular treatments help to prevent injuries from occuring again. Your success in achieving fitness is never final. It is a goal for which you must habitually strive.
